Mariah Carey: Yep. She IS Married.

It was still just a rumor yesterday, but now, we haz confirmashun: Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon really did get married this week. His auntie - or somebody being described as a 'family member'  - says so.

E! Online reports:

Family member Linda Cannon has confirmed to E! News that the couple are, in fact, married. 

"Yes, we know," she says. "He called us and told us all about it. We are happy for him. If that is what he wants then we are happy for him."

Note the little parenthetical dig in that last sentence: if that is what he wants, THEN we are happy for him. I don't know about you, but whenever my parents or whomever said something like 'if that's what you really want to do DOT DOT DOT' to me, what they really meant was 'you're out of your mind, but it doesn't seem mortally dangerous, so go ahead.' So Linda Cannon's statement reads, to me, like if he's really determined to marry that washed-up cougar - which we really wish he wouldn't - then we support him. Against our better judgment and against all our dreams and hopes for his future, but whatever. He's a big boy.

I can't believe anyone's family being overly disappointed in someone marrying Mariah Carrey. A. I don't believe she's actually old enough to have cougar status (I read an article that described Cameron Diaz as a cougar not too long ago for dating Justin Timberlake and thought that was equally misguided). And B. She's hardly washed up. All of her albums, including one release just recently, have rocketed to number one. She has a gajillion dollars in the bank and her career is obviously thriving.

I really don't understand all the hate poured on Mariah Carey. I mean, I'm not a fan of her music really (I prefer folk rock) but I don't find her repellent. Really, she seems like a nice enough person. Sure, she had a nervous breakdowna few years ago but at least she didn't become a raging coke whore selling her stuff to the paps. And, well, Glitter was a huge error in judgement but we all make those (I'm looking at you Madonna and pretty much every movie you' ve made since Desperately Seeking Susan.)

For all the shit people talk you have to wonder who is buying all the albums.

Also? Really? Who the hell is Nick Cannon? (I mean, I know who he is, but barely.) He's taking her stock down, if anyone's pulling anyone "down" in that supposed relationship.

First of all, we have to get rid of the comment by sleazebucket above. EEEW.

Secondly Mariah is 10 years older than Nick Cannon which makes him like 26. A bit young. Plus what, have they been dating a whole week? He was engaged to Victoria's Secret model Selita Ebanks less than a year ago. And he also dated- that's right- Kim Kardashian. So I'm just saying, neither one of them has a great track record and they haven't been together long. I'm not holding out much hope for this relationship.

Tommy Mattola was quite a few years older than Mariah - he practically robbed the cradle. Mariah evolved into who she wanted to be after the divorce. Look at her whole persona in 'I Don't Want To Cry' versus ' Sweet Sweet Fantasy'. Perhaps she's happy with a younger fella, one who won't try to morph her into something she's not.

As an aside, Nick Cannon's smirk is very irritating. It made watching Drumline virtually impossible to watch.

Are you kidding me? I'm 25, but I hope I am not considered a cougar before I even hit middle age. Doesn't a woman have to be over 50 or AT LEAST 40 to be considered a cougar? How insane is our society that we consider a 38 year old woman a 'cougar'?

This has been bothering me for a while (since I read the aforementioned article that referred to Diaz as a cougar). I've googled the term and found this in wikipedia: Cougar refers to an older woman, usually in her 40s-60s[11] who sexually pursues younger men in their 20s or early 30s.

And this in Urban Dictionary: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=cougar Which describes it as a woman who is 35+.

Honestly, when I think of a cougar I think of someone with silver hair. Not any one of the characters on Sex and the City. (Who all qualify if Ms. Carey qualifies.)

Dudes, to be perfectly honest, I think that it's insane that we even have such a term as cougar. BUT - I'd always understood it to refer to mid-thirties plus, or women over ten-plus years older than the men they were pursuing. And as I said - there's something about a woman who is older than me dressing like a teenager that weirds me out a bit.

Where the hell is the dress???- the womans in her underwear! No wonder the family made that statement. This really reeks of a publicity stunt and WHY? Her career has been doing great. Some celebs have no idea how to just be "normal" at a sacred event. The outfit makes a joke of the wedding like she's playing a role in a parody.................."Please Runaway Bride" or "My Big Fat Half-Naked Wedding"
