NKOTB on The Today Show, For Real & Finally

And I...uh...completely forgot to watch. Perhaps the novelty of nostalgia is not as big of a motivator as I previously thought?

Luckily, we live in the age of this thing called the Internet, so we can all watch the Not-So New Kids perform their hits and one new song live, in the rain and with some horrific acoustics, or maybe that's just what Jordan really sounds like. Hmm.

Either way, OMFG NKOTB SQUEE!

First up, it's time for a MONTAAAAGE!

And now, the new single "Summertime."

And lastly, "Tonight," or "That Song They All Kept Saying Was Very 'Beatles-esque' and Proof That Boy Bands Comparing Themselves to the Beatles is the Musical Jumping the Shark."

Sigh. I wish *I* could have been there live, in a trashbag poncho. That would have been soooo tubular, y'know?

Um. Yeah. I kind of cringed my way through the first half of the first video, not only in embarassment for the fact that a) they are rapidly approaching 40 and Joey, seriously, please stop singing "Please Don't Go, Girl" because it hurts all of us. You went through puberty. Embrace it. And b) there are like, all old ladies in the audience (i.e. ME). It's like when Davey Jones and the Monkees got back together again and my mom was excited. I feel ancient.

DianaCLT

It was cute, for nostalgia. But as Vicki put it, they are approaching 40. I have lots of male friends approaching 40. Can I imagine a single one of them dressing like his buddies and dancing in unison? Uh. NO. And I thank them for that.

I think, if they want to have any staying power, their music needs to grow up. And they need to realize that they have, too. Well - they've gotten OLDER, anyway. Maybe they haven't grown up so much though, in that whole maturity sense.

Amalah

Yes, exactly. As fond as my memories of the NKOTB days are, I have to admit that as far as the test of time goes, their music doesn't have the staying power of, say, early Britney or Hanson's Mmmmbop even. And watch 40-year-olds sing it is a little yickier than I thought, because they seem to be taking this all VERY SERIOUSLY.

Guys! Camp it up! We're all old, so let's all be in on the joke, okay?

Isabel

The montage was horrible and did not make me think fondly of the "good old days".

But, I'm a supporter, so I downloaded their new song from iTunes. But, I'm also keeping it real, so I used a free download I had.

I agree...they are taking this all too seriously. But maybe that's what they have to do to feel better about the whole thing.

(Hangs head in shame for watching all 3 videos, in their entirety.)

Amalah

PS How much do I love the whacked-out screencap of Jordan on the first video?

PPS A LOT.

CW

I can't believe Joey still has that crazy hat - he's still just as cute :)

I have to admit though, they are way too old to have back-up dancers in booty shorts!

Mandee

Joey is still totally the best one.

My girlfriend called me at 8:46: "I don't know if you are already at the office, but don't worry. I'm recording it for us. I had to leave the room I was so uncomfortable watching it, but I think we can bear it together."

JZMom

Can you really call them the "New Kids" when they're pushing 40 and we've known them (or, at least, about them) for the past 20 years?

I agree with Amalah's comment - Camp It Up!! I actually like listening to them...I just can't watch! *cringe*

Karen

I don't care what nuna-u-yall say. I LOVE NKOTB!!!! The sound was bad on the first video. I love that they're able to laugh at themselves. I love you Jonathan!!!!

Jessi

Karen, I am big Jonathan fan too! He still looked slightly awkward up there, like he always did!

(BTW, my husband's name is Jonathan...guess I did marry Jon, like I said I would all those years ago lol!)

Ida

Oh my gosh! Even after all this time I still LOVE LOVE LOVE them. I really do. I am pretty sure that I will go to their concert.

Nadou

Hello from France :)

I do agree with most of you, Jordan is the best singer, he's got a great voice. Joe and Donnie are not too bad but Joe has got real difficulties to sing old songs like "please don't go girl"... His voice changed too much! About, Danny and Jon, they're not singing, and it's a got thing ;) Anyway, i'm really happy to see them together, hope they'll come to France for a concert in Paris ;)

I saw them in concert last night, its the craziest and loudest concert I've been to. Better than the back street boys come back. Lance Bass from NSYNC was there. Yeah they are too old for their songs, but they look HOT.
