Rap Star DMX Arrested for Drugs and Animal Cruelty

DMX was arrested on Friday (my birthday, incidentally), on suspicion of drug possession and animal cruelty.  Ironically, the police initially came to his house to serve a search warrant and he barricaded himself inside his Arizona home.  While attempting to get him out, cops found additional weapons and drugs, as well as five pit bull puppies, and filed additional charges against him.  The barricading certainly served him well, wouldn't you say?

"We are handling this case as we would any other incident of alleged animal cruelty," Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas said in a statement.  Said Sheriff Joe Arpaio: "With all his money and fame, (DMX) has no excuse for not providing proper care for his animals."

Last August, police found 12 distressed pit bulls and three dead animals partially buried on his Arizona property.  The latest arrest was based on an indictment on seven counts of animal cruelty after the August raid, plus the additional charges from the Friday search.

DMX is no stranger to legal trouble, in fact, It was the second time in a week DMX was arrested.  On Tuesday, state police arrested him for driving at speeds as high as 114 miles per hour on a freeway.  He also pleaded guilty last year in New Jersey to animal cruelty charges in 2002 for neglecting 13 pit bulls.  As part of his sentence, he was required to make a public service announcement against animal abuse.  Can someone make it part of his sentence that this man never own an animal again?

And, in more weirdness, the dogs were taken to the First Avenue Jail, where they will remain under the care of female inmates.
