Sarah Jessica Parker Redefines Eco-Fashion By Wearing A Shrub On Her Head
This is a good look, I especially like the moss trim across her bust. I wonder if any insect life made itself at home in there. Because, you know, those butterflies in the shrubbery that's growing out of her hatpiece sure look comfortable.
I've never understood decorative hats. In part, I think, because there's no hat on earth that will fit properly on my own over-sized head, but still. I get wanting to keep your head warm or block the sun or whatever and not looking like a total tool while you're doing that, so the appeal of the nice hat is not a mystery to me, but sticking something fancy up there just for decoration seems to defy, in the most basic terms, Coco Chanel's maxim that less is more. Also, they just block views for taller people. Didn't Sesame Street do a whole segment about that once? It's a menace to society.
Yes, I know that this particular hat is a Philip Treacy, and that he has decorated some of the most important heads in the world, but that doesn't make it any less perplexing for me. Why put what looks to be a mouldy, albeit glittery, cow patty on your head, and top that with a shrubbery? Complete with insect life? 'Splain me this, pleez?
Otherwise, I think that Sarah Jessica Parker looked quite lovely walking the red carpet at the London premiere of the SATC movie. She looks cold, and maybe a touch more green than I'm used to seeing on red carpets (resist Kermit joke resist Kermit joke) - and, of course, THAT HAT - but still: loverly, all things considered.
She just needs to lose the plants and bugs. That's all.

I know it's a bit kooky, but that hat is SO SATC. Carrie Bradshaw was known for her crazy and unusual attire, so why would Sarah Jessica attend a movie permiere featuring said character without wearing something daring and gasp-worthy? I think she looks fabulous.

Love the dress...HATE the hat. Think it's just a bit too much.
Sooo excited to see the movie!

I don't know that it's daring so much as it is in need of water and fertilizer.
There's daring, and then there's perplexing. Cf. Bjork, Oscars 2001.

I love it. She looks like she's going to an English wedding or something.

I gotta put a tally in the Love It column. I actually think it's a lovely dress, and the hat is SO Carrie, I can't even fault her for wearing it. Also, as wearable sculpture goes, which I'm not a fan of off the runway, I think it's pretty exquisite. I know Michael Kors and Nina Garcia would frown, but I gotta say I think she looks fierce.

I think it's totally over the top but I love it. I can't think of anyone better to pull of that look...and it's actually really pretty...the details are amazing.
I love that the cap is an acorn...and her dress is pretty..altho I'm not sure that color suits her....

But what I really want to know is: how the heck is that sucker anchored to her head?
Roots?
Posted by: Baileyswedishfish | May 13, 2008 at 11:33 AM
IT'S AN ACORN? Aaaaah. Thank you, Baileyswedishfish!
And yes, it must be anchored by roots. Unless it's being held aloft by the soft flapping of those butterflies wings.

Love the dress and love, love, LOVE the hat.
I think she looks fantastic. I got the impression that she was paying homage to English style, which seems appropriate for the London premiere.

Add me to the love the dress train. It reminds me of the "Garden Party" challenge from Project Runway. HOWEVER. The hat. No. I wouldn't be surprised if Pat Fields hot-glued it onto SJP's head.

Dress=Pretty
Hat= Ruined Pretty Dress
I don't care if Carrie Bradshaw would have worn it, it is hideous.

You all love the hat? For serious?
I have to admit, I have never watched the show. I can understand if it is in character or whatever, but oh my gosh! That thing is 2 feet tall! It is no doubt beautiful in its own right, but as a hat? I would love it as a centerpiece or something, but I just find this funny. That has got to be killing her scalp! The dress is gorgeous, though.
I feel like Bugs Bunny or Elmer Fudd once wore something like this, but I can't put my finger on it...

Loved the show, loved (most) of the kooky fashions, but...this hat is a No. That rose and those butterflies are straight off an airbrushed sweatshirt. All it's missing are some bedazzled tiger eyes peering through the foliage.

I think I would like the hat more if her hair were up. Hats in general seem so retro that I want a chignon underneath, plus it would really help me to appreciate that hat as the crowning achievement of physics that it really is.

There's all this talk about SJP's hat... Have you seen the pics of Cynthia Nixon's dress?? Hello! There's something to talk about.

Memo to SJP: Carrie Bradshaw is not real. You are SJP, NOT Carrie.
I uploaded a picture of her waving to the crowd via UK Daily Mail. Y'all - the hat is to distract from the fact that the upper half of her dress is sheer. Well played.

K, Srly?! I love love love Carrie, crazy fashions and all, but my first thought upon seeing this was, OK, who let SJP get stoned with Imogen Heap? Honestly, do you guys' remember that shizz? I mean, c'mon SJP! If you're going to be all CRAZY at least be crazy and original!

Why does SJP look absolutely stunning in this dress? Even with this plant growing out of the top of her head she is working the red carpet. She is one of the few people in the industry that can pull off something like this.
Eco-fashion and going green is becoming one of the hottest trends in 2008. I wasn't to into the whole green thing at first. I didn't want to turn into one of those hug the tree type chicks, but eco-fashion definitely changed my mind. Now I'm officially apart of the green community.
I was already doing things like recycling and paying my bills online, but now I'm on to bigger and better things. One of the most drastic changes that I’ve made so far was switching to bioheat, and it's awesome! I love it because it's non-toxic, biodegradable, and consists of every-day products like avocado and soybean oil. And OMG during the winter it's my best friend. My buns being cold is no longer an issue during the cold seasons.
If I wasn't working for NORA I would have never even considered going green. Now I try to keep it green every day instead of just once a year. I got some really great tips from:
http://oilheatamerica.com/index.mv?screen=bioheat.
Check it out and see what things you can do to make your switch just as easy as mine was.
