Amy Winehouse Hits the Snooze Button On That Wake-Up Call

Amy Winehouse's father greatly exaggerated the state of his daughter's illness, according to Amy's rep. She does not have emphysema, or even early-stage emphysema, but " "early signs of what could lead to emphysema."

Soooo. Okay, she's still pretty sick, just not THAT dramatically sick. Yet.

And of course she was photographed yesterday lighting up a cigarette as she left the hospital.

*squinches eyes, rubs temples*

Look, I'm as exhausted of this nonsense as the next person. Amy's made it abundantly clear that she doesn't want help, doesn't want to get better, doesn't really want to do anything besides destroy herself in the must public manner possible. Does she even care that we're watching, or is that the whole point?

The Huffington Post is calling for a societal boycott of Winehouse (much like her mother begged people to stop buying her albums), since it is being reported that Amy still wants to perform at Nelson Mandela's birthday celebration in London this Friday. Her father claims that working keeps Amy temporarily clean and you know, ALIVE, but...dude. Come on. We've all seen the videos on YouTube where Amy can't even stand upright during a concert, much less remember her own lyrics.

HuffPo seems to think if we all just stop buying albums and iTunes singles and if concert promoters stop booking her, she'll lose her drug money and get a much-needed wake-up call to clean up her act. Well. Sure. Because NO drug addict has ever lost everything, sailed straight past rock-bottom and died in a back alley somewhere from cheap tainted drugs they exchanged for sex. No, they usually get it together a little before that.

What do you think it's going to take? A boycott? Getting dropped from her label? Full-scale emphysema? The tabs and gossip blogs (yes, us too) refusing to document her downfall-as-performance-art any more? Is it even really our responsibility at all? Should we all just move on to saving Pete Doherty's soul?

On a serious note, I think like Britney, we should all just leave the girl alone. It's bad enough she's suffering (even if it is self imposed).

I've got a REAL simple solution to the Amy Winehouse crizappness: Record Label executive guy - PULL OUT! Strap on a good pair of brass ones, kind of like the type Donald Trump uses, and tell her: "Amy, you're fired!"
