Friday Eye Candy: Girl Crushes, Ass-Kick Edition
Last week, when I asked for FEC topic suggestions, a few of you suggested an Girl Crush edition, and I was all like, hell yeah, cool, but then I started compiling a list of girls that I crush on and realized that, um, there were just way too many to cover in one post. Yes, I know, it is interesting that I crush on so many girls, but for the moment I'm just going to chalk it up to the overwhelming awesomeness of women in general. How could I not love us? We rock.
This edition: female characters from film or TV who rock with the ass-kicking and who I crush on majorly.
Angelina as Lara Croft, Tomb Raider. Pretty undeniable, I think. Remember that scene in the movie where she's got that trapeze thingy set-up in her mansion and she's flying around on it in her pajamas when all of a sudden bad guys attack and she doesn't miss a beat and just flings herself around kicking their asses hard? That rocked.
Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar as). I put SMG's name in brackets there because I want to stress that it is BUFFY that I crush on, and not SMG. SMG does nothing for me. Buffy, however, rocks the universe, srsly omg.
Faith (Eliza Dushku) from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. If Buffy herself weren't so fucking epic, I might have to say that I crushed on Faith more intensely than I did on Buffy. Seriously. She was bad ass. Five-by-five!
Gina Torres as Zoe from Firefly and Jasmine from Angel (JOSS WHEDON REPRESENT) (Dude knows how to write kick-ass female characters, y'all.) (I seem to be a bit fixated on asses and the kicking thereof, I know. I'll try to find better adjectives.) (Gina Torres has an awesome ass, no?)
Katee Sackhoff as Starbuck on Battlestar Galactica and also as the bad Bionic Woman - she so totally rocked as that bad bionic woman - from the Bionic Woman TV series that otherwise sucked large. I watched that show for her and her alone.
Sydney Bristow (Jennifer Garner) on Alias. I wasn't crazy about the whole dress-up-as-a-hooker-but-pack-a-gun conceit - that got old pretty fast - but she was undeniably a smoking hot derriere-kicker and I, like, totally wanted to be her (grad student cum secret agent? Did JJ Abrams tap into my fantasies? Probably. He's magic.)
Judge Judy. OK, this is weird, I know, but seriously. She could kick ALL their asses. She'd be all 'DON'T MESS WITH ME MADAM!!!' at Lara Croft and buggin' out her eyes at Faith. 'PUT YOUR POINTY STICK DOWN.' And then Buffy would be all, like, it's for vampires and JJ would be all 'DO I HAVE 'STUPID' PRINTED ON MY FOREHEAD?' Then she'd smash down her gavel and they'd all pee themselves a little.
I love Judge Judy. So sue me.

Mehhhh... Judge Judy doesn't scare me.
That Canadian woman who talks about sex? SHE scares me.

Um ... Trinity??????? Where is she?

Lovin' the list (even though a few series I'm not familiar with). And the JJ - LMAO!! Sometimes it's not what you have but what you do with it ;)
Oh, and a little on the lighter butt kicking side but I would like to nominate Phoebe (Alyssa Milano) and Paige (Rose McGowan) from Charmed - looove them!

Ooooh, Trinity! An oversight!

Sydney Bristow - LOVE HER!!! I was pregnant when Alias was in it's prime and I so wanted to name my daughter Sydney - just so she would be as kick ass as the character on TV. My hubby won out though...

LOVE BUFFY!!!! and ofcourse Angelina but prefer Mrs. Smith to Tombraider.
Also like Mila Jovovich who manages to kick ass in every movie she's in but my personal fave is 5th Element.
Posted by: Amberina | June 27, 2008 at 12:04 PM
Mila! Also an oversight. 5th Element rocked srsly hard.

And I know I so very very much do NOT like Jessica Alba anymore, but I will always hold a little soft spot for her in my heart for embodying Max, my Dark Angel *swoon*

Yeah, I vote Trinity.
And Princess Leia, when she took down Jabba the Hut with a chain. While wearing a bikini.

Drew Barrymore in Charlie's Angels? Hellz yeah!!! Lucy Liu, especially in Payback, that was AWESOME! Oh and Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman!!! Heck even Charlize Theron in Aeon Flux (though, I know, I know... she's been working that "Man, I'm pretty. Did you notice how pretty I am" thing lately). Michelle Yeoh in Crouching Tiger??? Talk about kick-ass! Oh, and guilty pleasure here... Kate Beckinsale in Underworld... you know just to show a little more vampire love... And HOLY CRAP! How could I have forgotten??? Hillary Swank in Million Dollar Baby! OK, I think I'm done... for now...

Yay, Judge Judy!! Thank you for validating my Judge Judy love. Good choices!
Also, I never thought Trinity was that amazingly hot.

You nailed this.
I definitely prefer Angelina in the Tomb Raider days than the present. She's all skin and bones now!

Ummm, am I the only one who remembers Xena and Gabrielle? Gina Torres used to guest spot on Hercules back in the day. SciFi always has had strong female characters but I'm going to have to Google for names.

I'm so happy you put Zoe here!!!!
I have to say that I was surprised to see her, so surprised that I just had to comment for the first time :)
(I've been reading mamapop for a little while, and love it!)
I love Zoe and think she's the most kick ass and awesome female character I have ever seen. (and all the other female characters in Firefly are equally amazing!).
Well done! :D

Michelle Yeoh, another glaring oversight, because, yes, seriously BADASSHAWT in crouching tiger.
And, yeah, Xena was pretty classic. I might also have gone with the original Bionic Woman. I had a Bionic Woman lunchbox. That qualifies as early girl crush, no?

Aside from the above mentioned, I have to add...
Anne Parillaud in La Femme Nakita (none of that Bridget Fonda Point of No Return shite).
Miranda Otto as Eowyn in Return Of The King

I have a request for both Sarah Connors - Linda Hamilton & Lena Headey (who plays her in the updated TV Sarah Connor Chronicles version) *and* Summer Glau, who was in Angel, Serenity/Firefly & Terminator SCC.

Oh lawd, MILA. She spellbound me in "The Fifth Element." Gorgeous. And of course Angelina.
If loving Judge Judy is wrong, I don't want to be right.
Posted by: missbanshee | June 27, 2008 at 03:25 PM
zoe from firefly goes down in my book as the hottest and most ass-kicking woman on tv, probably ever. but i will always hold a soft spot for trinity from the matrix, because for real i love that character SO much.
but in more recent stuff i have to say i have comet to love the character of sarah on 'chuck' (the actress' name is yvonne strahovski). she is really endearing and can totally hold her own in a fight.

Although she doesn't often physically kick ass, a few well placed taser blasts aside, my number one girl crush is Veronica Mars (Kristen Bell). She is fantastic! She's smart, witty, tough...but vulnerable, cute as a button, and takes s**t from no one.
Posted by: wwbd | June 27, 2008 at 04:58 PM
OMG!!! How could I have left out my Heroes girls!!! Holy Crap!!! Ali Larter as schizo+super strength, Monica Dawson with the crazy muscle memory, Claire Bennett, the indestructible one, Kirsten Bell with the insane electric fingers???!!!?!?!?! Hell YEAH!
Posted by: rednexmama | June 27, 2008 at 08:00 PM
Ok, I know I'm old when I look at these bad ladies and as I agree they are good ladies for girl crushes, not one of them would have been one of my pics because ahem, I'm "older" than you youngin's and my picks are ahem...people who where hot when I was your age...lol. Oh well, you will be older too...

Oh yeah and Uma Thurman in Kill Bill
