From the Are You Kidding Me File: R. Kelly Acquited
So, some would say I've been a little obsessed over the R. Kelly trial.
He was found not guilty today of all 14 counts after a 7 1/2 hour deliberation. I guess we can add this to the Michael Jackson and O.J. Simpson school of jury verdicts. And also like O.J., this trial had a tag line, if you don't see the mole, then Kelly cannot be convicted. That was the theme of the defense's closing arguments.
I went to law school, I've tried jury cases, I believe in the jury system, blah, blah, blah. But sometimes they get it wrong. And I believe they did here.
I guess the jury bought Kelly's attorneys' arguments that the 27-minute tape had been doctored, going so far as to say someone could have edited the singer's head onto another man's body. A prosecution expert testified such editing trickery would take 44 years and still would be obvious to viewers.
"R. Kelly was found not guilty because they had the best jury that Cook County could produce," said Kelly's attorney Sam Adam Jr. "Two things happened today. R. Kelly got his name back and [his goddaughter] never had to lose hers," Adam said.
I can't wait to hear what this jury has to say.

Ugh, seriously, it was ON TAPE. Why is he still walking free amongst us? This is ludicrous.

Color me completely unsurprised. We can't convict him. He's FAMOUS.

I am no more upset about R.Kelly being freed than the thousands of individuals incarcerated in the sub-human conditions of the County Jail. Many forced to plead guilty because they don't have the funds to fight the case.If we are going to complain about someone who is obviously guilty who has the resources to fight the case, then we are going to have to look at a system that says if you are broke you're guilt,or if you have money you innocent. It would be nice to think that guilt or innocence play a part keep dreaming!
