Six More Reasons to Get Amped About The Dark Knight

Dark_knight_ver4

Ohhhhh emmmmm geeeeee, you guys. The premiere of The Dark Knight is just three weeks away. And with the exception of Iron Man, the summer blockbuster season has been pretty depressing so far, what with huge steaming turds like The Love Guru and You Don't Mess with the Zohan driving folks away from the multiplexes. But I really think that  TDK is going to make us forget (though maybe not forgive) the trespasses of Mike Meyers and Adam Sandler.

I've been squeeing about this flick for awhile now, so you can imagine that I am like a kid waiting for Christmas now that it's getting so close. To placate me for the time being, Comcast was so kind as to put up six exclusive videos (and a bunch of other cool downloads) that give us a glimpse into the making of the movie. The clips about the use of IMAX technology and how the masks for The Joker's men came to be are especially fascinating.

Of course, it goes without saying that the more I see of what is sure to be an extremely iconic performance of The Joker by Heath Ledger. I'm trying not to dwell on how much this movie will compound his tragic death, but man...that is going to suck.

I would watch Christian Bale brush his teeth so obviously there's that aspect that has me up at night. But overall, I'm just so excited for the whole. I LOVE this trend of focusing on the artistic merits of big movies like these. It's like suddenly Hollywood realized that they could use those huge budgets to make REALLY good action movies. Or should we start calling them action films? I guess we have The Matrix to thank for that. (No, I will not include Titanic in that category. Yes, it won Oscars but James Cameron should NOT write serious, romantic dialogue. If that iceberg hadn't sunk that ship, then the bricks coming out of Jack and Rose's mouths sure would have.) Just in the last few years we've seen Sin City and Batman Begins, and Jon Favreau's amazing interpretation of Iron Man. I'd say that we're not far away from seeing blockbusters like this one taking home some serious golden statues!

I've said it before and I'll say it again. That poster alone makes me bounce up and down with excitement. Cannot freaking wait.

I'm with MissBanshee, I saw the poster the first time and thought "awwwwww-yeah" and I don't even care about the Batman franchise very much.

Now if I just knew more about the new X-Files movie!
