This Weekend In Pantsuits

No big celebrity news dropped this weekend, it seems. No one birthed their babies, that we know of; no one got divorced or arrested and - with possible exception of Nicole Richie, who was put on bump watch by X17 but who is so clearly not pregnant that that rumor can be immediately filed under Totally Pointless Gossip Mongering To Be Ignored - no one was declared pregnant.

However, Jane Fonda did wear a truly jaw-dropping pantsuit ensemble to some American Film Institute do.

I'm torn about this look. On the one hand, Jane Fonda is a good-looking woman who is in fantastic shape. Sure, she's had work done, but seeing as she really doesn't look all that much more done than Madonna I think that we can give her a pass, no? And she is certainly rocking that coral-pink pantsuit with confidence - and, note this well, without bra - which, when you think about it, really takes balls. So, kudos for that.

On the other hand, it is a coral-pink pantsuit, and one that looks like it might have been unearthed from the closet of Rhoda Morgenstern. Also? It's wrinkled. Is it made of linen? The only thing worse than polyester pantsuits are linen pantsuits. I mean, seriously. Linen pantsuits doom you to crotch creasing. And crotch creasing? Is bad.

So what's the verdict? Fug?

Perhaps she needs lasik? I don't like linen very much since it isn't so forgiving. The color is nice on her though, and her boobs are better than mine at age 28. So I give her a pass, but BARELY.

There was a page in US Weekly this week dedicated to the re-emergence of the Pantsuit.

It's SO attractive, I may just go git me one. It'll go nicely with my rainbow stripe toe socks.

There's a picture of her wearing the same pantsuit in the June 9th People Magazine. She's sitting, so I guess she must have gotten the wrinkles then (damn linen). Also, in the Mag, her boobs? Not as splendid as in this shot :) Makes my 28 year old boobs feel a bit better. though not much :P

As for the pant suit in general? I'm thinking brave Fug.

It takes a pair of brass ones to wear this kind of thing in public, and I'll give her credit for that, but...You know when pantsuits are appropriate? Never, that's when. FUG.

Where the hell do you buy a pant suit these days? And then where would you buy a linen coral pant suit with bell sleeves and bell bottoms? I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THIS WHOLE THING.

i think she looks great. yea, not too many people would venture to try this look, but by golly there is SO.MUCH.WORSE. out there. and the crotch wrinkles---yea, those are a big problem, but linen is breathable and comfortable, so maybe she said, eh, who cares. she is over 60 i think she looks damn good. "work" or no work.

I like the detail on the front. Subtle but pretty. It reminds of some the weaving work done by.....the guy from Project Runway.
