Clueless TV Reporter Finds Out That Dorks Are Not to Be Trifled With
So, were you one of the dedicated technophiles standing in line this weekend to get your hands on a squeaky new iPhone? If so, how much crap did you get for it from your friends and family and the world in general?
I was too lazy to deal with the lines and the crushing disappointment of waiting for 3 hours only to be turned away, so I ordered one. But having something of a gadget fetish and being notoriously impatient, I can totally understand where the line-sitters are coming from.
However, many people found the whole "event" rather silly. And, sure, it is just a phone and perhaps the fervent dedication with which folks sought it out was a classic case of too many people believing the hype. But it's a free country, right?
But if standing in line for a new gadget is a loser thing to do, then standing NEXT to the line and talking about how stupid it all is is even dumber, as a Los Angeles reporter found out on Friday.
Eric Spillman was reporting from an iPhone line and loudly made fun of the devotees. The reaction of the line-sitters ranged from sheepish to amused to WTF? since, you know, they may be standing in line for a new phone, but THAT dude was COVERING the line for the NEWS. How is this newsworthy? It's not! Spillman and his employer were the ones who deemed it important enough to give it air time...air time that could have been devoted to any number of things going on in the world. Like, say, five minutes on the price of gas and food and how, holy shit, we are all SCREWED.
But, no, Spillman and the production geniuses at KTLA decided that SOMEONE needed to be reporting about some nerds waiting for a gadget. The thing about nerds, though, is that they're smart and they get bullshit from jerks like Spillman all the time. And occassionally, one nerd points out that they don't have to take this crap. So when Spillman asked one line-sitter if he had ever seen a woman naked before (which, OH HAR HAR I HAVEN'T HEARD THAT ONE BEFORE), the mighty nerd called Spillman a jackass.
That guy is my new hero. Check it:

And that, my friends, is why I don't watch KTLA news. If it was someone from a trendy/what's-happening-now type of show, I'd get it. But as the "nerd" said..."This is journalism to you???"

Haha good for him. That guy totally had it coming. I love how the female news anchor totally knew better. Plus honestly, any guy who has that kind of cash to drop on a PHONE is certainly gonna have some money for his girl....just saying.... ;)
