TRL to End in November
MTV's Total Request Live is set to air its final show this November. The show launched Carson Daly into the upper echelon of television impresarios back in 1998 and its last show will mark the end of an era.
I have no idea what hysterical groupies will do now and I am slightly bummed that this means no more scenes like the above photo, or the photo after the jump.
CHICK IS EATING HER HAIR. Behold, the power of the Jonas.
I watched TRL every now and then in college but as I aged, the artists they had on the show seemed more and more ridiculous to me. (Except for that adorable dude from My Chemical Romance.) And then Carson Daly left to host one of the most boring chat shows I've ever seen, a show that is scripted to the point of denoting blinks and breaths. Daly is better off the cuff.
TRL shares much, if not most of the credit (or shame, it's all perspective) for the Great Boy Band Resurgence of the late nineties, early naughts. Britney Spears debuted many of her videos on the show, kids could text the show and watch as their words ran in a ticker ("I LUV U CARSON LOL!!11"; "iz dat justin timblaaakeOMG") at the bottom of the screen. It was the American Bandstand of our generation.
RIP, TRL.
