Get Vince off his knees!

I, unlike many of you, am a man. Which means I am genetically predisposed to love the hell out of Entourage, the only thing on TV that makes me wish I had a TV.

Entourage08_2

In order to get my fix, my friend DVRs the show for me every Sunday, and I come over to watch every Monday night. It's the most soothing half hour of my week, because I get to slough off the penury and abasement of my own life and bask in the reflected sloth and hedonism of theirs. At least, I used to.

Entourage is the man's "Sex in the City," except that whole "I'm so like Carrie!" thing doesn't translate. Because everyone thinks he's E. Men get to forget about the dented '98 Taurus in the driveway and watch Jeremy Piven roar off in Ari's Ferrari. They can slobber (inwardly) at all the exotic locales, expensive stuff, and pneumatic women. It's visual Maxim, a glorious jolt of escapism.

[CAUTION: Spoiler alert. If you haven't watched this season yet, look away.]

Except now, the boys have fallen on hard times, because Vince can't get a job. He's had to pimp himself out to a Sweet Sixteen party, for hell's sake. Cars are being repossessed, houses are being downsized, and Vince is groveling, hat in hand, for anything that will make a dent in his prodigious expenses.

Why the hell do I want to watch that? I'm already living that! "Vincent" means "to conquer," not "to cower"!

Listen here, Mr. Ellin. I appreciate drama (and Drama--as great as Piven is, Kevin Dillon's performance is far more Emmy-worthy). But I've had enough of this life-on-the-periphery-of-the-skids plotline. Sign Vince up for Aquaman 3. Get him on Smoke Jumpers. SHOW HIM THE MONEY, so you can show me the money. If Entourage is to become just another story of a struggling Everyman, then what's the point? I might as well switch over to Gary Unmarried.

OK, I don't have the right cable to get Entourage, but the headline and your handle just made me think:

KNEEL BEFORE LOD.

Maria

For a brief, completely inappropriate moment I was like uh I wouldn't mind seeing Vince on his knees. Just sayin'

But that's totally not what you meant.

And I'm an Ari girl anyway.

Love the stupor man reference!

Anyway, I think that in order to REappreciate Vince, Turtle, Drama and E's West Coast lifestyle we need to see them struggle again for a bit, and be reminded of from whence they came. Hence the next episode and the visit of the loser/liar friend.

The cockles of my heart were warmed for a second when I saw E's boyish grin during the remembrance of how much fun when they had when they were poor and had nothing but a bag of potato chips.

I'm sure no one would trade a Ferrari for a beat up car.. but I know some of my best memories with my friends were in my beat up cars, just like some of my favorite memories with my DW were when we were just having fun in the proverbial paper bag or parked in an alleyway.

Vince will get his money back, or perhaps E will start to shine even more.. Once in a while though it's good to see them get grounded so they don't take for granted what they have.

Otherwise all the eye candy and escapism will get boring, like Christie Brinkley was for Bily Joel. (ok I'm reaching)

I think we can all learn a lesson from this.

Just like we can learn a lesson from the following link: http://smouch.net/lol/

1) vince is totally going to get smoke jumpers.

2) i feel your pain, but wasn't this week's episode one of the best that there's been? i LOVED it.

Totally agree about Kevin Dillon's performance. I think it's overlooked, and he rocks.

-Woman who loves Entourage way more than Sex in the City
