Still Undecided? Just Follow Your Favorite Celebrity to the Polls
With just a week to go until Election 2008 comes to a close, you'd think people would know who they are voting for. We've had debates and phone calls and emails and it seems like everyone is talking about the presidential election. Even celebrities have gotten involved and thrown their support behind the candidates.
But, in the end, will it matter? Do we listen to what celebrities tell us or do we make up our own minds? I'm sure Barack is thrilled Oprah endorsed him and Elisabeth Hasselback introducing Sarah Palin at a rally can't hurt, right? Or are people so sick of celebrities they don't want them mixed in with their politics? We shall see.
A full list of who is supporting who is after the jump. Oh come on, you know you care.

I don't tell celebrities/entertainers how to do their job, I don't expect them to tell me how to vote. I know how to read a voters pamphlet, watch debates & know how and what issues the candidates stand for.

I don't have any problem with celebs being involved in politics just like the rest of us... what annoys me is that their "endorsement" should matter to anyone.
Obviously THEY think it matters... hence the commercials that all make me eye-rolly.

I love the John McCain SNL video "McCain sings Streisand" where he says "Pretty annoying huh? maybe she should do her job and let me do mine."
Then again, I can't stand Babs...

As someone who already decided who to vote for - and quite adamantly, I might add - do you think they notice that their endorsements work in the opposite direction? If someone is on the "other" candidate's list, it makes them a little smaller in my mind. I try not to let that happen, but I just can't help it. It's like I found out they don't like to eat ice cream, or something...doesn't make you a bad person, just someone I no longer want to hang with.

re; foreign celebrities endorsing a US candidate....even if they can't actually vote themselves, I completely understand why they would want to state their opinions. On the selfish side, it gets them (the celebrity) press, right? Although that's not what I think Elton John and John Cleese are after. I think they just want to be part of the discussion.
My husband and I (Canadians living in Canada) are obsessed with your election, because it will affect our entire planet.
(Oh, and Obama has better celebrities!)

You can add Ellen Pompeo to the Barack Obama column, because I got a robocall from her two days ago. Weirdest. Thing. Ever.
I do think the celebrity endorsements are kind of annoying, and maybe reflective of Hollywood's narcissism, that they think their influence would sway someone in one direction or another.

John Cleese lives in Santa Barbara, so me thinks he has dual citizenship.
As far as celebrity endorsements...I don't think people should vote just because "the cool kids" voted a certain way (although, Irma, you're totally right! ;)). HOWEVER, if a celeb being passionate about voting inspires someone previously apathetic about the whole thing to look into it and do it, awesome! And if a person respects a celeb and what they stand for, and they are inspired by said celeb to look into their preferred candidates and find out what makes them tick - also awesome. I can't say I think celebs should keep their opinions to themselves, because I don't think any of us should be silenced about something we are passionate about - as long as we do it respectfully.

These 'celebrities' are American citizens too. Doesn't matter if they're an actress, model, singer, etc. They are no different if they want to air out their opinions than the passer-byers that are interviewed on the street by newscasters. I don't look too 'deeply' in it.
Oh, and did watching Elisabeth Hasselhoweveryouspellhername and Sarah Palin at the same time gave *me a headache*, wow.

dudes, considering a celebrity's endorsement of a candidate is not like absorbing your high school crush's beliefs. celebrities speak up because people, whether they respect them for their work as artists or, yes, because many people adore them, will give them a few minutes of consideration. just like when former presidents and other politicians endorse a candidate. they speak because people will listen. they're not telling you to vote their way because they're cool. they're just trying to make sure that you've considered your vote carefully and, hey, this is how I'm voting and why and maybe you want to do the same or not whatever JUST VOTE GODDAMMIT.

also, and I know it's petty, but I am pretty dismayed at some of the people on John McPalin's list.

I don't tell people who I vote for, nor do I discuss politics with strangers, friends, co-workers, or family. I've witnessed heated arguments, friendships broken, albeit not with me. I do discuss it with my husband because if we do disagree, we still have respect for each other's opinions, something I don't see too much of in day & age.

Wait - KEVIN SORBO is supporting McCain?
I have some serious soul-searching to do. Some SERIOUS soul-searching.

As if 2 and a half men wasn't enough. Ducky and I just broke up for good.

Ahhhh, Jason just beat me to it, except my soul-searching was going to be brought on by Heidi Montag.
Actually, I don't really know who she is, still. I mean, I think I might know. She's blonde, or something. Right? Well that's enough for me. McCain it is.

I think this is interesting. Thanks for doing all that research ;)

Add Janine Turner and Arnold Schwarzenegger to McCain's list.

I know I'm not a celebrity (except in my own mind) but....
even though I'm not a U.S Citizen (I'm a valid green card holder) I have become obsessed with this election. We went to see Obama last night AND of course, we have all the signs, bumper stickers, t-shirts, blah blah and I am making phone calls for the campaign. I may not be voting, but I will still be deeply affected by the results.

Harry Connick Jr.
Sarah Silverman
John Mayer
Henry Winkler
Ron Howard
Brad Pit
Judy Blume
