Madonna is inarguably one of the greatest music legends alive today. This master of self-reinvention is known across the globe for a career that has spanned three decades at the top of the music charts, in film, and as a best-selling author. She has been transformed from little Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone from Bay City, Michigan into a cultural icon that has spawned a nearly religious reverence in her fans.
In spite of all this, I have a confession to make: I don't get the Madonna love. It feels like I just stood up at a family dinner and declared that I am a carsexual who is madly in love with my dad's Buick.
The very pervasiveness of her fame and fandom makes me wonder if I must have some kind of brain disorder not to love her at least a little bit. I mean, she can dance, she can sing, and she is a fantastic businessperson. As a creative spirit myself, these are all things for which I usually admire people, but there is something so unfriendly about her public persona. She reminds me of a brushed metal kitchen appliance: cold and impenetrable.

Britney Spears performed at Germany's Bambi Awards over the Thanksgiving holiday and redeemed herself after her notorious VMA performance.

So there I was the other day, watching an episode of Flight of the Conchords and wondering how I could work Bret and Jemaine into an Eye Candy post, when it occurred to me that - and here I gasped out loud - perhaps there were people out there who had never heard of Flight of the Conchords and so would not particularly care whether I worked it into a post.
As I said, I gasped out loud. How could anybody live without the comedic benediction that is Flight of the Conchords?
And then I had an other disturbing thought. What if there was life-sustaining comedy/music/general hotness out there that I was not aware of?
It took me a very long time to fall asleep that night. By morning, I had my solution: ASK THE INTERNETS.

I just got done reading this article by Alex Dobuzinskis about how Britney Spears is saying she feels old and boring.
At 26.
*Sarah rolls her eyes like crazy*
Let us pretend for just a moment that I wasn't 10 years older that Britney. AND I AM NOT OLD DAMMIT!
Ahem.
Does that picture look old or boring? She may not be in as good of shape as she was when she was 18, but who of us is? She had two children, let's cut her some slack for that. Honestly she still looks way better than I would in a sequined bikini and fishnets.

As the entire filthy internet now knows, botched cyborgs Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag had a ‘symbolic’ wedding ceremony in Mexico on November 20th. I suspect their wedding was symbolic because robots aren’t legally allowed to marry in most countries. Except Canada. And Luxembourg.
Most people believe that the story of Montag and Pratt begins with welfaretainment shows like Laguna Beach and The Hills, but for the real historical roots of Speidi, you need to go back at least as far as the second century AD. Only by looking back that far do we realize that Pratt and Montag have shown us that we live in a benighted, abandoned world at the ass-end of the cosmos, and that God is never coming to our rescue. And when I say ‘rescue’, I mean ‘rescue us from people like Pratt and Montag’.
Find out how after the jump, won’t you? I promise not to surprise you with naked pictures of Neil Patrick Harris.

After 70 years of love and loyalty, Grant Morrison, the writer of Batman since 2006, is driving a stake through our hearts: he is killing Batman in DC Comic's latest issue, out now.

Ready? Let's make this quick, cause the real meat and potatoes of the story is after the jump.
Heidi Montag and Spencer "I'm a total" Pratt only had a "symbolic" wedding in Mexico over the weekend, and it's totally not legal and obviously a publicity stunt and oh my god, no one cares.
In more stimulating news, a very important event occurred on Monday night, and in honor of all the things we at MamaPop are thankful for this festive season, I will share this grand moment with all of you. Ready?

Starting November 30th, those not watching 60 Minutes from 7-8 on Sunday nights (That’d be all of us, right?), can re-watch the show that put the fabled town of Jericho, Kansas on the map. Of course that was before the map went up in a massive wave of mushroom clouds.

It was to be expected that there'd be a certain amount of criticism directed toward the Twilight series after the movie was released. There was, after all, a considerable amount of criticism of each of the books as these were released, criticism that was largely directed toward the purportedly anti- or un-feminist sensibilities of the series. Bella is a passive character, the argument goes: Bella sacrifices too much for love; Bella sublimates herself to Edward; Bella doesn't kick ass and take names like Buffy did; Bella washes too many dishes for her dad; Bella wears too much fleece, etc, etc.
Whatever. The quote-unquote feminist arguments against the Twilight series are specious at best, in my opinion (I mean, for example: Bella passive? Bella risks her own life on numerous occasions to save people. Bella saves EVERYBODY at the end. And she's not even a Slayer. *rolls eyes*), but nonetheless frustrating. I actually wrote a whole post earlier this week, ranting about how being cynical about love is the new black and how stupid it is - yeah, I called it stupid - to call out romantic love as de facto disempowering, even when the love at stake (heh) is love between a clumsy human girl and a powerful vampire, especially seeing as that clumsy human girl basically makes that vampire her bitch and makes him do whatever she wants.
But then I realized that long lectures on the place of romantic love in the history of feminist discourse and consideration of same against current critiques of Twilight were maybe not so interesting to a community of readers who are probably just looking for something lite to read while they scarf down their afternoon Snickers bar, and so I shelved it.
Then I read this (warning - some spoilers follow):

Y'all? This is so damn bizarre I have not the words. And I can't decide if it is par for the course regarding the...eclectic habits of Scientologists, or if this is just wicked scary and a talking point to be filed away for gun control lobbyists. I'll just state the facts, cause they are wackadoodle enough without any added snark.
On Sunday, a man rolled up to the Scientology Celebrity Center in Hollywood in a red convertible and came at a security guard wielding two Samurai swords. The security guard, fearing for his safety, shot the man dead.
Whoa! How many things are wrong here???

Thanksgiving movies, just like the whole Thanksgiving season, tend to get elbowed out by the the bigger, more bankable Christmas movies. And it's a shame, because the genre has produced some of the most touching and interesting examinations of American families in cinema.
