Jack Bauer is Back

24jackbauer10

The actual seventh season of "24" doesn't kick off until Sunday, January 11, 2009, but you don't have to wait quite that long to get your Jack Bauer fix, especially if you've been wondering where the hell he's been for the last year. (Warning: some spoilers after the jump.)

S7cast

Since the Writer's Strike robbed us of Jack Bauer's intense yelling for an entire year (the seventh season was originally set to premiere early 2008), FOX is whetting our palettes with a two-hour prequel titled "24: Redemption" set to air next Sunday, November 23 (8/7 c), and it will give us a taste of what's to come in the seventh season.

Other things to expect in season 7: the show's first female president, the disbandment of CTU and, more important, Tony Almeida's return. Admittedly, I lost my passion for "24" after Tony and Michelle met their unfortunate demise in season five, so that last piece of news has sucked me back into what will surely be a more exciting day than I've personally ever experienced.

Kiefer Sutherland, the actor who portrays Jack Bauer (and the actor who comes across much less cool and exciting than his fictional counterpart), says this season is going to be the show's best yet. Although I imagine this means the action will be jam packed, and the intensity high, I always kind of hope (at the beginning of each season) that Jack will get a little bit of a break and spend at least one hour (episode) eating a nice lunch and reading the paper or browsing at Barnes & Noble. I mean, do we ever get to see the poor guy enjoy a meal? I suppose that's for the best, actually, since I'm not entirely convinced -- six "days" later -- that it's possible for Jack Bauer to speak in a normal voice, and ordering a deli sandwich while screaming is a lot more awkward than, say, questioning terrorists in the same tone.

Tune in next Sunday and then again in January. Jack Bauer is back.
