Golden Globe Nominations Announced!
I'm pretty honest with myself and will come right out and say that I have no life. So you'll understand where I'm coming from when I say...
OH MY GOD THE GOLDEN GLOBE NOMINATIONS WERE ANNOUNCED YESTERDAY!!!!!!
See, it's not the Golden Globes that I'm particularly excited about. But they signal the beginning of awards season, all of which leads up to...THE OSCARS aka the biggest night of my year because, like I said, I have no life. And, of course, the Golden Globes are seen as a strong indicator of who might be seeing Oscar nominations, so this is big news for me.
Perhaps the biggest item is Heath Ledger's nomination for best supporting actor for The Dark Knight. There was a lot of "Will they or won't they?" about his posthumous honor, but I think this bodes well for him getting an Oscar nom and maybe even the Oscar itself.
At this point, many of the movies that have nominations are pretty new or in limited release still, so I haven't seen most of them. Most of the nominations that I'm excited about are in the TV categories. Mad Men and True Blood were both nominated for best drama series and that really tugs at my allegiances. Same for best actress in a drama series: January Jones (aka Betty Draper) and Anna Paquin (ake Sookie Stackhouse). Jon Hamm (aka Don Draper) was nominated for best actor in a drama series. Excuse me while I throw my underthings at the screen. Californication, Entourage, and Weeds were all nominated for best comedy series and Mary-Louise Parker, Kevin Connolly, and David Duchovny were nominated for their roles on those shows.

My favorite part of the Golden Globe Awards is watching the acceptance speeches as the night goes on. I love drunken speeches, and I love seeing an actress run on stage late because she was in the ladies' room when her name was announced.

The Golden Globes are the top pop culture moment for me too! I call it my Super Bowl. And I watch as many hours of the red carpet pre show as I can. I am so excited it is in just a couple of weeks. Was it last year they had that "press conference" thingy because of the Writer's Strike?
