New Host of NBC's Meet the Press Named, Maybe
I'm a political junkie and love Meet The Press. I was devastated when Tim Russert died. Tom Brokaw has been doing a nice job pinch hitting since his death.
It was announced yesterday that David Gregory will be the new permanent host of Meet the Press by everyone except NBC. NBC refused to confirm that. But it was widely reported in the press.
David is a long time political reporter who was once part of the white house press corps. He became known for his dogged questioning of press officials while covering the Bush White House. He often serves as a substitute for Matt Lauer on the Today show and as a substitute for Lester Holt on Weekend Today. He has also subbed on Meet The Press and subbed on NBC's Nightly News for Brian Williams. Can you be a professional news substitute? Because he totally has that gig covered. He is currently the host of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue on MSNBC.
NBC responded to the reports, saying, "I don't know where they are getting this. We have nothing to announce." David's agent said he could neither confirm nor deny the report.
Tom Brokaw's last show is supposedly this Sunday when he interviews President Elect Barack Obama. That still has such a nice ring to it.

I miss Tim Russert so much and just know that he would just love seeing the history Obama made this year. But the best part about Tim was that he would be even more excited by all the "smaller" races going on across the country. He just knew his stuff and was genuinely excited to cover it all.
I wish David Gregory the best in the role. He has some big shoes to fill.

I don't know. Did you see him sub on the Today show? He danced to Hillary Duff or Lindsay Lohan or one of them. And it was BAD.
He's just a little silly...
No Tim, is what I'm sayin'.

I loved David in the White House press corps, but since his new shows on MSNBC, I'm sort of down on him. 1600 Pennsylvania Ave is too "cute."
But he was good hammering the White House when he was in the press corps, so maybe he can hammer guests like Russert did.
I don't know if he's the right guy for MTP, but my fingers are crossed.
