New York Giants' Plaxico Burress To Plead Not Guilty To Weapon Charges After He Shoots Himself in the Leg

That is not a metaphor, he shot himself in the leg.  Actually shot himself in the leg.

New York Giants' reciever Plaxico Burress (whose team totally murdered the Washington Redskins yesterday I can't even talk about it) is expected to plead not guilty today when he is arraigned for criminal possession of a weapon.  The charges stem from an incident at a nightclub Friday night with another Giants' player Antonio Pierce.  After being confronted about having a handgun at the club by security, Plaxico attempted to unload the gun, and you guessed it folks, shot himself in the right thigh.

The bullet went through the skin and muscle tissue of his right thigh and did not hit any major arteries, and there were no broken bones.  Plaxico was kept in the hospital overnight and was released on Saturday.  He is expected to make a full recovery.  His own stupidity, well, we are not sure about that.

Beyond the criminal charges for failing to have a permit and carrying a gun into a nightclub, which carries a maximum of seven years in prison, he also is in trouble with the NFL.  NFL handgun policy prohibits any player from having a gun without a proper permit or registration.  I'm glad the NFL reiterated every states' law in that policy.  It is possible he could be suspended for the rest of the season.

Plaxico has hired a defense attorney to the stars.  And he has previous guns in nightclub experience.  He previously represented Sean "Diddy" "Puff Daddy" "I have no idea what goes in the quotes anymore" Combs during his handgun in a nightclub trial in 2001.

My prediction right now, 2 years suspended sentence, heavy fine, and I have no idea what the NFL is going to do with him.  Anyone else?  Want to make a game out of this?

Oh Plaxico... I'm so proud he went to Michigan State. (My Alma Mater). He's carrying around a gun and doesn't know how to unload it. If that isn't a case against gun control I don't know what is...

Supposedly the state minimums have been tightened since Combs' case, so if he IS convicted he should get jail time. Luckily, the NFL does not need a guilty verdict, or any verdict at all to punish the idiot.

Since I have no interest in debating conceal/carry laws, because obviously Plax didn't really concern himself with law here, let's make a new rule that if a person does not know where to locate the safety on a handgun, he should be forced to treat his own wound. That might ease some of the ER congestion in some of these hospitals.

What an ass! It's people like that which harm the cause of keeping our gun rights because a law-abiding citizen wouldn't have carried the gun without a permit and wouldn't have carried it into a bar.

Hope they peg him for the maximum possible punishement and tack on a bit for stupidity.

Note on your word choice: Redskins had a ceremony pre-game for Sean Taylor, a player of theirs who was actually murdered last year in a robbery attempt on his home or somesuch.

according to my Dad who is a big NRA guy - even if you have a properly registered gun and a valid permit to carry a concealed weapon you can not carry them in a post office or bar. I really hope that both the state and the NFL throw the book at this guy.

Michele - you are very correct (at least I know it's the case here in Georgia). Even with a carry permit there are still restrictions on places you can carry your firearm - a bar is one of them.

As a life long Giants fan (my mum was a bit worried when I had posters of LT all over my room at the tender age of 13) anything Giants related gets my ear. Lawrence Taylor, even with his rapsheet still makes me giggle like a little girl.

That being said.... There is a problem that is a combo of too many guns + too many dumb people carrying around guns when they shouldn't be. Plaxico is not the first NFL'er who thinks he's above the law when it comes to his guns, or anything else for that matter, read: Michael Vick.

He really should get the book thrown at him, and not just some probation crap. The fact that he only shot himself is hysterical, but what if he'd shot someone else in his stupidity? He's a grown man, he can do the time.

And the fact that I'm reading in the Post today that everybody tried to cover up the fact that this assclown shot himself is just adding to the intregue.

Bloomberg trashed the Giants after it was revealed that cops learned about the shooting only from television reports hours later, despite the team's apparent knowledge of the events. The mayor added that anything short of the mandatory 3½-year minimum for Burress, if convicted, would be "a sham, a mockery of the law."

So let me get this straight. The people at the club knew he shot himself, the Giants knew he shot himself and the peeps at the hospital who addmitted him into ER knew he shot himself.....but no one actually reported it to the Po-Po??? Niiiiiiiice!

Some people need to get fired, and Plax's sweet ass needs to go to the joint!
