While I'm at It - 5 TV Shows that Let Me Down

Last week I riled some people up when I said that I was vaguely disappointed when I saw "The Dark Knight". The more I think about it, while it really was a good film it could have never lived up to my expectations.

I think I also made some people angry when I said that I thought "The Two Towers" was boring.

Fortunately, most of you hated "Sideways" much more than I did, somehow redeeming me in a lot of your eyes.

But MamaPop isn't really about being well liked so I have decided to put it out there again and tell you about 5 television shows that have come highly recommended that I just don't like.

Keep in mind - these aren't just shows that everybody hates. These are popular shows that I can't stand. I apologize in advance. You probably love at least one of these shows. I am not claiming to be better than you. Shit. I watched three seasons of "Blow Out" and that show was terrible!

5) King of The Hill

Hey. You know what isn't funny? Making fun of stupid rednecks in cartoon form for ten years.

Normally I like Mike Judge and his work. I hate it that you are supposed to sympathize with Peggy Hill as the smart one and she is ignorant.

4) Sex and the City

I'm sorry. I don't get it. HBO series usually rock my world. I don't even relate to one of these women. I don't even like one of these women. I wouldn't be friends with any of them.

And why do they talk so freaking fast?

Maybe it stems from my irrational distaste for Sarah Jessica Parker. Maybe it is because I am jealous of their clothes. Or maybe the whole thing is irritating.

3) Weeds

Weedsseason4

Maybe it is because so many people said it was the best show EVAH. Maybe it is because I don't think you could make enough money selling pot in suburbia to pay for that amazing house. Maybe it is because I would have just moved if I were in her situation but I think this show is astoundingly overrated.

To come completely clean with you I've never made it beyond episode 5. I tried twice to watch the series. I figured I must be missing something, but every time I get to the part when the uncle is jerking off while IMing his nephew's girlfriend I just quit watching. I'm not a prude but that just skeeves me out beyond belief.

If you can convince me it gets better I will give it another try because even I have to admit that Elizabeth Perkins is amazing as Celia.

2) Scrubs

Scrubs

This show is not funny.

It tries really hard to be funny. It fails.

I have watched maybe six episodes of "Scrubs" from several different seasons and I have laughed exactly one time.

ONCE.

What the fuck is so funny about this show?

1) American Idol

Americanidol449

I loathe "American Idol".

I hate that style of singing. I abhor when it is on every day for a month. I detest Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul AND Ryan Seascrest.

I hate the music they choose. I hate it that they get people who sing really poorly ON PURPOSE for the shows at the beginning of the seasons.

I am disappointed in humanity every time I am reminded that more people vote for the finals in this show than vote in presidential elections.

I have no idea why this show is so popular. I don't know why my Dad watches the recaps on Fox Reality TV.

Now - instead of climbing all over me for hating your favorite shows, feel free to tell me why the shows I love are so so stupid. I know somebody out there hates "Top Chef" or "The West Wing" or "True Blood". I know there are popular shows that you don't watch either.
