Dad Jailed For Unsportsmanlike Conduct At Daughter's Youth League Softball Game
How many times have you attended a child's sporting event only to be appalled by the unsportsmanlike conduct? No, not by the children, but by the parents. Yelling at empires, coaches, even other kids, it has gotten out of control.
Well, a Judge in a suburb of Chicago had a answer. Michael Beck lost his temper at his daughter's softball game. Upset with calls by the umpire, he cursed and threatened the official. The police were called. Beck proceeded to spit at the officer who was trying to calm the situation. He was charged with felony aggravated battery.
He pleaded guilty to reduced charges of misdemeanor battery and assault and was sentenced to 5 nights in jail. Yep, you read that right, 5 nights in the slammer. More than some people get for a DUI.
He was also ordered to pay a pay a $500 fine, attend anger-management counseling, do 40 hours of community service work and write letters of apology to the umpire and the sheriff's deputy. Beck will spend five nights in the DuPage County Jail, but will be released to work during the day.
And he did not just spit at the cops, he spit food at the cops, sunflower seeds to be exact. Lovely example he was setting to CHILDREN.
And for those of you with kids in Little League, I suggest you print out this article and hand it out to the next parent who behaves badly at your child's game. There is nothing like the threat of jail time to whip someone into shape.
