This Is REALLY Unnecessary
There are a lot of things that are unnecessary in life. Paula Deen's fried butter balls come to mind, as does Real Chance of Love, which was described to me as "the sixth layer of reality television."
But a sequel to 2006's The Pink Panther, which I didn't see but avoided because it looked terrible, is REALLY unnecessary.
I realize that sequels are a part of cinematic life. If you have a money-making formula, roll with it, and really in this economy who am I to criticize such a thing? But...ugh. It just looks so marginally funny. At best.

I thought the first one was a flop!

I saw part of the first Pink Panther movie on an airplane. I was a captive audience, the baby was sleeping on my arm so I couldn't reach my book in the bag by my feet. It was so unbelievably awful and so horrendously unfunny, about 20 minutes into it, I took off the free plane headphones and decided my time would be better spent staring out the plane window for the next 90 minutes. I cannot believe someone decided to make a sequel to that pile of poo. And I'm usually a fan of Steve Martin!

Steve Martin is great!
Arguable perhaps, but definitely talented as a comedian.
However, there's no way that a modern version of the Pink Panther films could ever hold a candle to the original series...
Peter Sellers is unbeatable! and perhaps even irreplaceable, especially in this case.
What modern actor could equal his performances???

It continually amazes me that the same man who writes prize winning plays, books, and New Yorker articles would stoop this low. If he's in that much need for cash, he could just sell one of his precious pieces of art. Seriously.

It's my understanding that's why he does these crap films. So he can write and collect art. Not that I'm defending it, entirely, but "Housesitter" probably brought in more money than "L.A. Story" even thought the former was CRAP and the latter was GENIUS.

Totally agree with minihipster. I love Steve Martin, but, really, how can anyone top Peter Sellers? He was brilliant.
And even he took Clouseau one (or two) films too far.
