This makes Bronx Mowgli Wentz look like a reasonable name choice.
Remember how when Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz had a baby a couple of months ago and they named it Bronx Mowgli and we all laughed for 45 minutes? Remember how it made Frank Zappa look reasonable? I mean honestly, I think I would rather be named Moon Unit than Bronx Mowgli. At least you can go my Moon and sound cool.
Plus Frank Zappa was way cooler than Pete Wentz could ever even if he lives to be 114.
But I digress - If you thought that crap was funny listen to what Lisa Bonet and Jason Momoa named their new baby.
Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa.
This is where I thank the lord that this is print media. How does one go about pronouncing something like that?
Let's all just agree to call him the kid with the smokin' hot dad.
Is it just me or does Lisa Bonet make babies with all the hottest guys that have dreadlocks?
I'm also going to assume that with the genetics passed down to little Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha from Lisa Bonet and Jason Momoa he will be able to play off a name like that. All the little girls in his elementary school will rename their Ken dolls Nakoa-Wolf.

Whatever the kid's name is I don't think it'll matter because he's sure to be gorgeous. Lord almighty that man is HOT! (whoever he is...)

I think I'd be willing to name my kid Nakoa-Wolf if I could have him with that dude.

Jason Momoa is on Stargate Atlantis. He's the only reason why I'll sometimes stay in the room when my husband watches it.

Holy hotness! And holy stupid name! Stil, somehow I hate Gwyneth's Apple more. Probably because I hate Gwyneth Paltrow with the force of a thousand armies. But seriously, how is it pronounced?!
Posted by: Hilary | January 08, 2009 at 02:43 PM
Heck, yes. PRETTY.

I'd say one goes about pronouncing that by being of Native Hawaiian ancestry. "Namakaeha" is part of Jason Momoa's full name,
I don't get why the baby needs a hyphenated first name, though. That's weird whatever the language.

It looks like a Hawaiian name- don't they have a place on Maui or something?
Posted by: Jenn | January 08, 2009 at 03:20 PM
Whoa that's my name too. What are the odds?

Also, random note: Momoa doesn't have his dreads anymore, or if he does they've only been growing since SGA went out of production. The dreads had gotten so heavy that it was causing neck pain, so he cut them off. The Stargate Atlantis people had them made into a wig because they didn't want this character to do the same.

I don't know who that dude is, I've never seen Stargate, but he's so hot I think I just peed my pants a little. Damn. What is he, like half her age?

I actually don't think it's unreasonable at all, when the name is clearly part of a parent's heritage and culture.
If I ever had a child with someone from another culture, I'd be happy to name the child something that embraced their heritage. It seems to me this name is lovely and full of meaning:
According to Jason's mom, "He was born on the stormest, rainy night. Nakoa(warrior)...Mana(strength/spirit) Kaua(rain) po(dark)... The name was always going to be Nakoa-Wolf, but Jason did the research on first middle name, 2nd middle name as you know is Jason's."
Bronx Mowgli isn't in the same league. His parents named him something attention getting because (IMHO) they are attention seeking fame-mongers who assume their child will crave the spotlight the way they have.

That's quite the mouthful.
(I actually mean the name, not the father. But while we're on the subject...that's quite the mouthful.)
I still hate "Pilot Inspektor" and "Moxie Crimefighter" as baby names way more.

If memory serves, the Hawaiian alphabet only has 13 letters. That's why the words tend to be so long. As Karen pointed out - each part is very meaningful. You get used to it after a while. "lani" means heaven. "maka" means eyes. "lei" means flowers. Etc. My friend named her daughter "Makalani" because it means heavenly eyes. My daughter's middle name is "Kulani"...Suitable to Heaven. :)

Thank you for pointing out this man's existence to me, Sarah. ;)
Oh, and the baby too.
Agreed with Molly, Pilot Inspektor & the CrimeFighter bit = so silly

Cindy W, you too? I thought I was the only Stargate widow on Friday nights. We could have had a support group for wives whose husbands watch this stupid, inane show! Anyway, aren't you excited about tonight? LAST EPISODE EVER! YEAH US!

That should be the next Friday Hot Montage thingy. I can't remember what it's called. Anyway - Hot Men with Dreadlocks!

Holy Fuck....that man is sick. Momoa is like a bi racial "Sawyer" (Lost)

Am I pronouncing things in my head wrong or does this kid's name rhyme? Nakoa Momoa?! WTF?
Posted by: Ashley | January 09, 2009 at 11:00 PM
I've never watched Stargate Atlantis, but if it means getting to watch this dude even for a few minutes, I'm SO putting it on a series record on the DVR. Because DAMN.
I also thought this was interesting from her Wikipedia page: "It was around this time (1992) that Bonet legally changed her name to Lilakoi Moon, although she still uses the name Lisa Bonet for her entertainment career.[10]
On July 23, 2007, Bonet gave birth to her second child, daughter Lola Iolani Momoa. This is her first child with Jason Momoa, an actor noted for his roles in the television shows Baywatch and Stargate Atlantis. On December 15, 2008, Bonet and Momoa had a son, Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa."
