Away We Go (And Do Another Giveaway!)
I totally want to see Away We Go. I really, badly, seriously do, because, um, hello? JOHN KRASINKSY AND MAYA RUDOLPH. Starring in a movie directed by SAM MENDES and written by DAVE EGGERS AND VENDELA VIDA.
JOHN KRASINKSY. DAVE EGGERS. Yes, this warrants ALL CAPS, because seriously: here is my TV geek crush working with a script from one of my biggest contemporary lit crushes and his totally also-lit-crushable wife and directed by a crush-worthy director who is married to one of my biggest all-time girl crushes and also starring another totally crushable girl and also? It's about becoming parents, which, come on. This movie was made for me.
That said, we don't have a regular babysitter, so it might be a while before I have the pleasure. So I'll probably just mope over the soundtrack until it's released on DVD or Planet Nanny starts making regular deliveries to Earth, whichever comes first.
So, what are we giving away?
The soundtrack. And a poster and a t-shirt, but it's really the soundtrack that you should be salivating over here. Because, the soundtrack? Is amazing. The Velvet Underground, The Stranglers, and a whole bunch of acoustic awesome from Alexi Murdoch.
(Actually, the poster is a cool score, too. The graphics are not unreminiscent of the MamaPop graphics, which means that someone on the job there has pretty good taste. Also, John Krasinsky. You know that if you had a locker you'd want his picture in it. This is the next best thing.)
(Where was I? Right. SOUNDTRACK.)
And if you had the soundtrack, you could hang out in your backyard after the kids are asleep and slip the soundtrack into your portable media player of choice and pretend that you're on long, meandering, pre-baby road trip adventure. And sigh, loudly, and grapple with a complicated emotional mix of nostalgia for pre-baby days and gratitude that you're already well into the lifelong journey that is life with family.
Or just sing loudly along with the Velvet Underground.
That's what I'll be doing.
Leave a comment here anytime between now and Thursday midnight and you'll be eligible to win an Away We Go package that includes the soundtrack, a movie poster and a t-shirt. We have FIVE to give away! WHOOT!
Name one song that you would put or would have put on your babymoon road trip playlist, and you can enter twice (just leave one comment with 'pick me' and another with your soundtrack pick.)
WINNAHS! Nimble, Jen (Dancing Lemur), Chataine, Katie (joshkatie) and BlackeyedGurl!

I would put... "World's Greatest" by Bonnie Prince Billy (I think that's their name, I suck at being a music fan) and also probably something by the Arcade Fire on my soundtrack.
ALSO! "My Eyes" by Travis, which was written for the lead singer's firstborn when the child was unborn, and probably anything else by Travis because I love them. "Flowers in the Window"!!!

Ooh, I can't wait to see this movie either! Maya Rudolph was so underrated on SNL, I think. I'm psyched to get 2 hours with her! And John Krasinski...cuteness. Especially now that they've got him out of that shirt and tie.

I would also put "Another Travelin' Song" by Bright Eyes for the frustrating parts of the trip.

Oops. Forgot my song. Jenny and the Ess-Dog by Stephen Malkmus. Because it's about way-innocent times; Jenny's next guy will be the one she marries, has kids with, and gets nostalgic for pre-baby times with. And the Ess-Dog, as he will not be a parent, will live perpetually suspended in pre-baby innocence, but will always be kind of awesome. (If you have heard this song, you will [maybe?] get what I'm saying; if you haven't, I apologize.)
