Are You Ready For Grey's Anatomy...In Space?
ABC has acquired the rights to Gravity, a science fiction show from the U.K. about eight astronauts who undertake a six-year mission. But the producers want you to know, LADIES, that you shouldn't be scared of those words like "science fiction" and "astronauts" and especially "science."
This is "vagina-friendly" science fiction, apparently.
No. Seriously. One of the show's producers has actually described it as "Grey's Anatomy In Space." Because:
[Emphasis mine. That's also my face smacking the desk that you hear right now.]
So...basically. It's a primetime soap opera. Set in space. Which...you could have just said, guys.
Personally, they had me at science fiction and lost me with the rest of it. Mostly the pandering, I think, is what lost me. But then I read that Gravity stars Ron Livingston, of Office Space and Band of Brothers fame. (And probably a lot of other crap, judging by the long resume on IMDB of stuff that I have never seen, except for one or two episodes of Standoff, which...no. Let's pretend that show never happened.)
Gravity will air this summer. And dammit, producers! First you annoy me with your outdated views of women and sci-fi and then you cast some guy that I've got a little crush on and NOW I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO THINK. Quick, someone get a Lifetime exec over here to tell what kind of TV us girls like these days.

This looks interesting but trying to draw in women with referring to a series that's starting to annoy the crap out of me with its whiny relationship-y-ness is kind of making it less so...
hmm.
Ron Livingston though... fine. i'll watch it. (thanks for letting us know about it!)

I love Sci-Fi. And I know about a million other chicks who do too. This kind of thing sucks. I mean, who do they think watches stuff like Dark Angel and Buffy. Do they think that this is all guy stuff? Really? Stupids. But, yeah, Ron Livingston. Okay, I'll get over it. Plus, I liked Standoff. All like six or seven episodes of it.

Can I beat that producer with a sack full of my sci-fi action figures? Heck, even if I just used the unboxed ones, which include B'Elanna Torres, Dr Crusher, three or four Odos, and Captain Sisko, and a couple of NASA spacecraft toys, it would work pretty well and keep the others in good, if not mint, condition. So Ivanova and Trinity and Garak are safe for now.

First of all, I would love the gender breakdown of who watched the Star Trek movie. Methinks there was a fair showing of ta-tas there.
Second, the use of Pigs in Space was genius. Pure genius.

I am not sure if this whole sci-fiction will be good but let's see...it's interesting twist.

I'll watch it, though I'm annoyed that they feel the need to "female friendly" a show up...why can't they just make a show and whomever watches it, watches it.

Actually, the reason it's being promoted as Grey's in space is because one of the series creators is James Parriot, who was a writer and exec producer on Grey's.
Also, it's called "Defying Gravity", and it's a Canada/US co-pro, not British. But those are just details.
Don't let the publicists turn you off, ladies - it's a great show!
