Tony Romo Dumped Jessica Simpson Because Of John Mayer?

Jessica_simpson-tony-romo Look, I'm not completely sure why I like Jessica Simpson (did I just say that?) but I think it's because she reminds me of a deer caught in headlights. Plus she's unlucky in love and her weird, over-involved manager Dad is creepy and both reasons make me sympathetic. Trust me, I don't get my feelings either but it's the same logic as feeling guilty about offending a stuffed animal: it makes no sense but there's no denying I feel bad when I have to put Teddykins in a drawer. Or is it just me that feels that way?

But back to poor Jessica who was recently dumped the night before her twenty-ninth birthday by her boyfriend of over a year, Dallas Cowboy Tony Romo. Apparently she was expecting an engagement ring but instead she got the "Welcome to Dumpsville, population you" telegram. Ouch. I once was dumped by a guy the day before Valentine's Day and I've always suspected he did it so he didn't have to buy a gift. Yup, I totally dated those kinds of guys.

So is quarterback Tony Romo one of those guys? It looks like he supposedly felt there was good reason to break up with her on her birthday eve, which also was the night before their Ken and Barbie themed party. Yes you read that right: Ken and Barbie. I know, it's a stretch to imagine.

Anyhow, it now looks like Tony dumped Jessica because of recent text messages she received from her ex-boyfriend John Mayer (remember when Jessica and John were together?). One of those pesky sources said “They were hanging out and he picked up her phone and she got defensive about it, Tony found messages from John and went ballistic."

Well, depending on what the messages said, that's not good for Jessica. If an ex was sending me inappropriate messages (not saying John Mayer was), I'd be blocking him or at least deleting them. But come to think of it, if nothing was going on between me and the ex and my current partner was aware that I speak with the ex, then I'd tell my current boyfriend where to shove his jealousy and insecurities.

Regardless, if that's the reason she was so harshly dumped or it's because her creepy dad Joe Simpson just wouldn't leave well enough alone with his constant meddling, it sure does suck to be Jessica. First her sister Ashley married and had a baby right after Jessica's own marriage to Nick Lachey dissolved, then she was picked on by the media for gaining some weight (shame on them but I can't condone the mom jeans), then she started forgetting lyrics to songs during concerts in the parking lot of the Piggly-Wiggly, and now she's single again. I guess it's back to spending Saturday night designing hair pieces with BFF Ken Paves.

Oh Jessica, I'm eating a pint of Haagen-Dazs Caramel Cone Explosion in sympathy (or at least that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.)

I think she's got to stop over sharing about her love life. Know when to keep quiet Jess. Don't tell the world how madly and deeply in love you two are when you've only been dating for two weeks. It'll only come back to haunt you.

PS Can't she tell Dad to back the hell off already?

Sils

I didn't know it was her birthday. Now I feel bad for Jessica Simpson.

I once called off a wedding on Valentine's Day... and then totally ended the relationship (ie the guy moved out) 5 days before my birthday.

Yeah. That was awesome.

kyslp

I so totally dated those guys, too. I feel sorry for Jessica. What is the magical power that John Mayer holds over these women? He just seems douchey to me.

motherbumper

Don't tell anyone but I totally used to do that kind of thing whenever I started dating a guy - and there is no way to get a guy to dump you faster than declaring you are deeply in love after the first date.

Mind you, I wasn't 29, I was 14. And also at 29 my dad was not involved in my love life. He lost his input when I left home.

Oh poor Jessica, it really sucks to be her.

motherbumper

Hey, I'm sure it was all done for the right reasons because backing out of marriage usually is the completely right thing to do (I give props to you for doing it, some folks just go through with it because they feel trapped not realizing the trap hasn't actually caught them yet... but I digress.) And it still sucks all those events happened around happy happy joy joy times.

motherbumper

Thank you for bringing that up, I don't think we are alone on thinking he is douchey. I'm not sure what his allure is but I once read an article where he trashed Jennifer Aniston and wrote a post about it on my personal site. Seriously, that guy really sounds like a douche who can sing (or so I've heard).

Suzy Q

Ha! I got dumped the day before Valentine's Day, too. It sucked. But, we went out for dinner together on VDay anyway, after I refused to cook for him as originally planned. Awkward!

Sils

Oh, yeah, it was the best thing to do for sure. At the time it was terrible, now? Really happy I didn't go through with it.

motherbumper

Damn! I like the way you operate because that sounds so "I don't give a crap dude, I just want my dinner". When I was dumped the day before Valentine's Day, I hosted a boyfriend bonfire and made a voodoo doll out of his hairs I found around the house (I've never claimed to not be somewhat disturbed.)

Jennie

I just re-watched Newlyweds, and, here you go: I like her too. I DON'T KNOW WHY. I took her breakup with Nick harder than a stranger really should, let's just say.

motherbumper

*chest thump* I totally, totally get it.

Amanda of Shamelessly Sassy

I also like Jessica Simpson. I can't really explain it, but I just do. I was pretty bummed about her break up with Nick also. Mostly because Nick is one of the more beautiful pieces of man flesh I've ever seen. I also feel like if you're dating a guy and he feels the need to go through your phone, you're probably better off with out him. Even if he is Tony Romo.
PS. Not to continue sounding like a Jessica fangirl, but her purse line is pretty awesome.

motherbumper

"If you're dating a guy and he feels the need to go through your phone, you're probably better off with out him." AIN'T THAT THE TRUTH!

Now I'm off to check out her purse line...

amanda

I'll cop to a decent amount of sympathy for her, I can't imagine it's easy. I think maybe she should just hang tight for a bit. A little alone time and come country-light or more shoe designing, then maybe she can get together with Justin Long after the Drew Barrymore thing finally meets its inevitable demise.

I am a bitch for saying that, aren't I?

Damn.

motherbumper

Okay, that Justin Long idea totally cracked me up so if that makes you a bitch, I'm one too. *high five*

mom2tbet

Well, since Nick just broke up with Vanessa, the Nick and Jess should go for round two. They could totally pimp the relationship out on MTV as The Newlyweds Pt. Deaux and Jessica can tell everyone they're part ducks.
