Who the Emmys overlooked
The Emmy nominations were announced yesterday. (You can find the full list of nominations here.) They sure got a few things right, that's for sure. Such as Michael C. Hall's nom for Dexter, acknowledging Mad Men's awesomeness, Kristin Chenoweth's Pushing Daisies' role and Toni Collette's multiple roles on The United States of Tara. Oh, also Top Chef's nod in the best reality programming category. Although, MY GOD, why anyone thinks Charlie Sheen should be up for any award is beyond me.
Additionally, here's where else I think the Emmys totally missed the mark:
1. Ignoring Friday Night Lights altogether, but especially in the lead actor and actress categories. Kyle Chandler (Coach Taylor) and Connie Britton (Tami Taylor). Easily the most realistic and refreshing portrayal of a marriage on TV, and they are continually under-acknowledged for their roles.
2. Justin Kirk on Weeds. I'm a huge fan of this show, but even I don't think season four was its best. If Mary Louise Parker (Nancy Botwin) had been left off the ballot this year, I wouldn't have been too shocked, actually, but Kirk's role as the unlucky uncle who continually means well is always on the mark for me. He's the heartbeat of that show way more often than Nancy is, and, yeah, I think he's way better than the other half of the mess that is TWO AND A HALF MEN. WHY IS THIS SHOW NOMINATED FOR ANYTHING AT ALL?
3. True Blood. Nowhere to be seen. No drama (or comedy?) nomination. No nomination for Nelsan Ellis who perfectly plays Lafayette. I know there aren't nominations for show intros, but they didn't even think to create one to give a nod to the just plain awesome song/intro combo for this show. I'm annoyed.
4. Finally, and I fear no one seeing my point on this one, but Leighton Meester's Blair Woldorf on Gossip Girl. Other than the clothes, there's only one reason I watch this show week in and week out and that's Blair. I think she's one of the best characters on TV, honestly. And Leighton captures her pretty damn brilliantly. I know it's the CW. I know it's GOSSIP GIRL for crying out loud, but she's good. And, again, if "Two and a Half Men" can be seen as quality television, everything should be considered.

WHY is Two and a Half Men still on while many of my favorite shows have been cancelled?! And the fact that it is being nominated for AWARDS...WHY?! ugh.

So much word. What does FNL have to do to be recognized for its awesomeness? Seriously, the SAME PEOPLE ARE NOMINATED EVERY YEAR. Lost got the shaft again, except for Michael Emerson. Battlestar got the shaft, again.
It's so masturbatory I can't stand it. Seriously, CHARLIE SHEEN? REALLY? He basically plays himself.

I was so wrapped up in my indignation for the lack of LOST & True Blood noms that I totally forgot about FNL. For shame, Emmy people. For shame.
I'm totally rooting for the dude that plays Sheldon on Big Bang Theory, by the way. Screw Charlie Sheen.

WHY is Two and a Half Men still on the air? Who is watching that show? I can't even handle the promos during my morning news. People, stop watching stupid shows. You're killing me.

I feel like nominating anyone from Gossip Girl would set a dangerous precedent for the Emmy's... glad they haven't gone down that road yet.

WORD.

I agree with you 100% on FNL. Best show on tv. Hands down.

There is also the fact the 30 Rock wins everything, every time. I may be the only one who doesn't like it, which is fine. It's just not funny to me.
I agree completely about True Blood and FNL especially. They are fraking awesome!!

I'm sad True Blood was ignored, but I'm really peeved about Battlestar. This was their last chance to recognize BSG. Le sigh.
Also, Cat Deely is once again ignored. Such a shame.

Katie, admittedly, 30 Rock has grown on me BUT it wins everything, all the time, and that's just ridiculous. It's not the best EVERY YEAR OF ALL THINGS AMEN. It's just not. And it bums me out that whoever is picking all these awards is too narrow-focused in their selections to spread the love just a LITTLE bit.

True Blood was ignored in the major categories, but did garner 3 Emmy Nominations: Art Direction, Casting and Main Title Design (the opening credits)... so yeah, there is a category for the awesome opening credits. No need to be annoyed, at least by that part.

Thanks, Darcey! I thought I scanned the nominations pretty thoroughly but obviously not, ha. I'll tone down my annoyance.

I'm so bummed that Friday Night Lights, Weeds and True Blood were basically overlooked. I love all three shows.
