The MamaPop Pop Culture Confessional: Mom-101 Edition
Welcome to the MamaPop Pop Culture Confessional, where we receive confession of any and all pop culture pleasures, guilty or otherwise!
Today, is the unrepentant Liz from Mom-101, who has a more than a few confessions to share.
Herewith, Liz's not-so-guilty pop culture pleasures, in her own words:
. . . . .
The idea of me sharing my pop culture guilty pleasures with you all is laughable considering I feel little to no guilt about my pop culture affections. They are, simply, pleasures. Like the gentle sound of a baby laughing or a misogynist TV political commentator losing all his sponsors, these are the things in life that give me joy.
Let me also say that I am freaking pissed that The Bloggess beat me to Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman series on her own list earlier this month because not only did I devour the entire series in about a week when I discovered them, I had to justify them to Richard “Yes he really was wearing those satin gym shorts” Simmons who was sitting next to me on a flight from LA to NY and kept screaming to the whole cabin THIS GIRL IS READING A COMIC BOOK! HEY EVERYONE, SHE IS READING A COMIC BOOK! That was sometime after he volunteered his entire life story to me, and before he finally fell asleep and the entire cabin silently applauded.
Richard Simmons is not a guilty pleasure of mine by the way. Swear.
1. Rock of Love
There is simply no premise better suited to game-changing reality television than The Bachelor Only With Heavy Metal Sluts With No Self-Esteem. I love this show so damn much that when I had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to interview Olympian Dara Torres, all I talked to her about was Rock of Love. And she didn’t mind. So now I love Dara Torres too.
2. @michaelianblack
I refuse to apologize for getting a little too excited when a new tweet from him pops up in my feed. Let’s just say sommmmme people are entertaining enough that they don’t have to challenge CNN to a duel to get a million followers.
3. Animation festivals (and their souvenir t-shirts)
I miss the good old days of lining up at the Film Forum with the other animation geeks, hoping to get the first glimpse of Bill Plympton’s latest and discovering this new funny short about a desk lamp, of all things, from this little studio called Pixar. Of course the highlight of every show was always the Bambi Meets Godzilla finale. Because…well, you know. Exactly.
4. Fish Heads
I am proud that while my daughter’s preschool classmates are dabbling in Suzuki technique, my own little girl has committed the entire 1979 Barnes & Barnes hit to memory. The video doesn’t freak her out either. That’s my girl.
5. Any movie about the dorky high girl who falls in love with the hot high school guy and has a well-scored third act climax at a prom.
What can I say, I grew up in the age of John Hughes. Now the tables are turned: what pop culture confessions are you willing to share this week?

Every season at the end of Rock of Love I root for him to pick neither girl, only so there can be a sequel.
Dude's a rock star. He's not settling down so fast with some reality TV stripper.

My love for Michael Ian Black is so sizzling hot. I want to just have him sit around my house and give me the humor goods.

I think "is a rock star" is debatable. Especially for some of those 21-year olds who weren't even born when he was a star.
WAS a star I can get behind.
