Celebrity Twitter Melee: Demi Moore vs. Perez Hilton

With every celebrity using their very own "verified" Twitter account these days, it really is so much easier to write celebrity gossip. Gone are the days of sitting in the Brown Derby disguised by a plant, eavesdropping on a conversation between Willliam Holden and Eve Arden. I think that might have been an episode of I Love Lucy, come to think. Nevertheless, it's like shooting ducks in a barrel these days. All you have to do is follow a bunch of drama queen celebs on Twitter and let them do all the work.

Demi Moore, aka @mrskutcher, erupted on Twitter last week in response to Perez Hilton's repeated accusations that she is a bad parent because she lets 15-year old Tallulah leave the house in revealing outfits to party at events documented by hipster party photographer Cobrasnake. I'm not going to link to the pictures lest I be accused of being a child pornographer, as Mrs. Kutcher has accused Perez on Twitter in response.

Unsurprisingly, the accusation erupted into a big celebritard flame war. Here are some highlights:

mrskutcher: Clearly Perez Hilton isn't taking violating child pornography laws very seriously. He might not but there are alot of people who do!

mrskutcher: Anyone who advertises follows or supports Perez supports violating child pornography laws!

mrskutcher: Let me ask all of you, what is it called when someone is telling people to look and focus on a child's "boobs & ass" while providing photos?

Demi then retweets a bunch of people responding that such actions are child pornography or sexualizing a minor.

In response, Perez tweeted the following:

perezhilton: @mrskutcher Expect another letter from my attorney, kitten.

perezhilton: @mrskutcher P.S. Bring it on, bitch!

And then posted more links to pictures of Tallulah in questionable outfits, while deflecting flames from other celebrities, like Kirstie Alley, and receiving support from, of course, Spencer Pratt, whose Twitter I refuse to link to on principle.

No comment during the flame exchange was actually made on why 15-year-old Tallulah is out partying at the kind of party Cobrasnake would photograph, whether dressed like this:

Because, seriously, from looking at his party photos—which include an album entitled "Eight-Ball Eyes"—Cobrasnake doesn't exactly seem like an all-ages-party kinda guy.

Personally, I don't think it's right or even fair for a person who draws MS Paint penises on people's faces to criticize a mother for what her 15-year-old wears or does. When I was 15, I wore whatever the fuck I wanted and I went pretty much wherever the fuck I wanted, despite a 10 pm curfew. Kids are extremely sneaky and resourceful and if you don't lock them in the cellar at night, they're gonna wear jean shorts that make their ass hang out and they're going to go to some parties they shouldn't. However, Demi doesn't exactly smell like roses in all this, either. I think it's sensationalistic to equate the posting of these pictures, taken of Tallulah in public, with child pornography, and minimalizes the exploitation and abuse the victims of child pornography endure.

That said, there is a victim in this little melee, and it's most definitely Tallulah. She's had pictures of her ass hanging out of an unfortunately ill-fitting pair of jean shorts posted for all to see and, to add insult, her mom is acting like a complete ass on the internet. If that's not teen social homicide, I don't know what is.
