Make the Veronica Mars Movie Happen -- On Twitter
There are few things that depress me quicker or make me stabbier than thinking of all the shows that are well on their way to syndication or that have already been playing on our TVs multiple times a day for multiple seasons -- TWO AND A HALF MEN, MY GOD -- when Veronica Mars, that little gem of a noir-ish teen detective drama, was cut short at the end of its third season.
So, when rumors started buzzing a while back about a possible Veronica Mars reunion on the big screen, I became pretty ridiculously giddy. Sure, two hours isn't exactly the two extra seasons I would have preferred but it's something! It's better than something, it would be available on DVD with a gag reel and bonus features!
The movie's buzz has ebbed and flowed. It seems Rob Thomas, creator and writer of the show, and Kristen Bell, lead star, are both on board and interested in making it happen, but for other reasons -- little studio support, for one -- the Veronica Mars feature film hasn't gotten green lit -- YET. That hasn't stopped fans from doing their part (just as they did back in 2007 when they tried to save the show from cancellation). Today, 09/09/09 (or 90909, the 09ers zip code, for all Veronica Mars fans out there), a Veronica Mars movie campaign has been launched on Twitter. All day, but specifically at 9:09 a.m. and p.m., tweet away with the hashtags #veronicamars or #veronicamarsmovie and see if somehow, someway, the powers-that-be pay attention to the desire for this movie to happen.
As Kristen Bell said on her own Twitter page recently:
@IMKristenBell "to all my homies who still tweet #veronicamarsmovie - i dont have any new info to share but i wont ever stop trying to get it made!"
Hey, I know it's a long shot, but if there can somehow be financial backing for a SEQUEL to Steve Martin's "Pink Panther" or Kevin James' role as a mall cop, there has to be some possibility this movie can happen, too.
And, silver lining, if you're just in need of a slight VM fix, the #veronicamars hashtag seems to be bringing out the one-liners today. Go remind yourself why this show was so ridiculously fantastic with a few of the shows best lines.

I loved that show. Even the strange tangents and the parade of network-mandated VH1 guest stars couldn't kill it. I'd watch an improv comedy program if Kristen Bell and Enrico Colantoni were the main act. I'd Tivo that thing.

I try to completely overlook Paris Hilton's appearance on that show. In
fact, I've convinced myself it never happened.

Keith to Veronica: "Did you watch House of Wax again? You know that Hilton girl gives you nightmares."
