Steve Martin & Alec Baldwin To Host The 2010 Oscars
(And can I just note for a minute how weird "2010" looks? It's like we're livin' in the future, baby! Where's my jet pack and rocket-powered hovercar, already? I MEAN SRSLY.)
So, this is what we get after Hugh Jackman decides he's had enough. [pours a little out for The Jackman] SNIFF.
Oscar telecast producers Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman made the announcement regarding the co-hosts this afternoon. Martin (who previously hosted the 73rd and 75th Oscars) said in a statement: “I am happy to co-host the Oscars with my enemy Alec Baldwin.” (Love that dude.)
In his statement, Baldwin retorted: “I don’t play the banjo but I am thrilled to be hosting the Oscars -- it’s the opportunity of a lifetime." Hey, was he just dissing Steve Martin there for playing banjo? DUDE, SO NOT COOL.Here's the thing: I love Martin and Baldwin -- individually, they're awesome, hilarious, powerhouse talents. I'm just trying to imagine how this is going to translate onto the stage come March. And we all know that a bad host (or hosts) makes a bad Oscars, which makes us all feel stabby and bored for the whole SIX BILLION HOUR LONG TELECAST.
So whatchoo think of these choices? Happy? Sad? Mad? Indifferent? FRIGHTENED?

I love it but hope they kind of do their own thing separately. I don't see them having any comic chemistry, but maybe I'm wrong.

DUDE, all I know is that you're SO RIGHT about 2010 and now I have jet packs and rocket hovercrafts on the brain because IT'S THE FUTURE. NOW!!
I like Steve Martin though. Infact, I love him. I hope he brings his banjo.
I can't tell about Alec Baldwin....I feel as though he plays hard to get. And without a banjo, he's already losing points to Steve Martin.

Eh, I'm still more excited to see Ricky Gervais host the Golden Globes.

@Fairly Odd Mother: I thought the same thing. Maybe they can do their own "sets"? err...
@chatty cricket: And my robot! Where is my robot!?!?

They actually did a thing together on SNL where they were being competitive about which one had hosted more times, and it was pretty funny. I think they have some chemistry - can they sustain it over the night? Hard to say . . .

"Eh, I'm still more excited to see Ricky Gervais host the Golden Globes."
My thoughts exactly.

They were pretty funny on 30 Rock together...

If Alec has the right writers, I am excited. I think he is awesome lately - I like this Alec SO much better than the sex symbol Alec of the early 90s (??). I have been in love with Steve Martin since middle school. Don't like that? Welll, Excuuuuuussee Meeeee!

There's a possibility for a whole "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" vibe which I would so love.
Steve does very little wrong in my book, and while I generally can't stand Alec if he has enough current or former SNL writers on hand (they do something for that man) he should be good.

I was praying for NPH. He rocked the Tonys and the Emmys. I was hoping he would sweep the awards shows.

I'm REALLY not a fan of Alec Balwin, so not super excited about that one... but I do LOVE me some Steve Martin! He can pretty much do no wrong in my book. Really looking forward to seeing him :)

Hey 2010, where's my damn flying car?? It'll be a while before I'm used to 2010 or '10. Sounds odd, no?
I don't even know if I'll be watching the Oscars this year...
