One of the two Ohio police chiefs charged with trying to sell the personal belongings of the surrogate that Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick used goes on trial this week. Martin's Ferry Chief of Police Barry P. Carpenter is charged with burglary, receiving stolen property and tampering with evidence.
This just in: Jon Gosselin might be a little bit more self-reflective than we think. Which is maybe not saying much, seeing as we - I - had thought that he wasn't at all self-reflective, but still. The Internet is abuzz this week with news of Rhianna's 20/20 and Good Morning America interviews (Jodi also wrote about Rhianna speaking out about her domestic violence experience here), the ones she's giving in conjunction with the release of her new album, Rated R. Now, on the eve of those media appearances, a few additional people are speaking out about what specifically happened to Rhianna and about domestic violence in general.
Well, Jon and Kate were told to settle their monetary issues, and it seems like they did. They were in court today to discuss who stole the cookie from the cookie jar, and all seems simpatico in Gosselin land. Or not. Who knows with those two?
"Nothing else will be said," announced Rosie O'Donnell's publicist regarding strong rumors that the comedian and her wife of five years were separating. The publicist did confirm that the couple are having issues and are working through them.
No matter how you slice it, Jon & Kate Gosselin have become nothing more than a reality-TV cautionary tale and the pop-culture version of a really bad and seemingly never-ending joke. Just when you think it can't get any more uncomfortable or you can't possibly enjoy it any less, something happens to make you need a shower and a little time with the Duggars. And without the Gosselins, you'd NEVER need time with the Duggars.
What started as a family playing out the highs and lows of parenting a large family on TV has turned into a media circus and a tabloid story that just won't end. They are on countless magazine covers and talk shows and reputable news sources, even. They are the Angelina and Brad of reality TV. Except with far shittier haircuts. And they're not on anyone's freebie list.
Now, finally, there's an end in sight. Jon & Kate Plus Eight is over next month. For good.
The entire world just exhaled.
Jon and Kate Gosselin were in court yesterday to meet with their attorneys and to arbitrate the famous "who took the money" issue. Except, nothing was done. They got a new court date of October 26, 2009. They were also told to work something out amicably.
I love it when judges do that.

The Gosselin drama, does it ever end?
Kate has filed court documents asking for child support and temporary spousal support in the wake of Jon taking nearly $230,000 from their joint bank account. "She needs relief in light of the draining of substantial marital assets in violation of the arbitrator's decision that the money should be used only for specific purposes," says Mark Momjian, one of her divorce attorneys.
Oh, and supposedly her credit card was denied this weekend, when she was trying to get gas, and she had to abandon the whole pay at the pump thingie, AND WALK IN THE STORE AND PAY CASH. Of course the paparazzi got the whole thing on film. News at 11.

And just when we thought the Usher and Tameka divorce was going to be civil. Wait, did we ever think that?
Usher has just released a new song and it is all about his divorce. Because what makes a better song than a divorce?
The song even references firing his mother as his manager because Tameka wanted him to. "I gave my heart and turned my back against the world 'cuz you were my girl," he sings, continuing, "I done damn near lost my mama/I done been through so much drama/I done turned into the man I never thought I'd be/I'm ready to sign them papers." Ouch.

We've always thought of Hollywood as a magical land of make-believe, where dreams come to life and anything that can be imagined can be made real on the screen. But in a stunning new twist that seems to defy the generally acknowledged laws of the space-time continuum, Mel Gibson has suddenly and miraculously gone back in time and stopped himself from driving drunk.
As MamaPop's Jodifur reported only a week ago, onetime idol of millions Gibson has been seeking to have his DUI expunged from the legal record, as is apparently the right of first-time DUI convictees who manage to make their way successfully through court-ordered meetings and public service. On Tuesday, that wish was granted by a California judge.
And what a trail it is.

So, as we were just saying - what, half an hour ago? - Jon Gosselin is trying to stop production of Kate & 8, and - presumable just because being a douche is so much fun - sucked a bunch of money out of Kate's bank account. Kate responded on the Today show this morning (video after the jump):

Jon Gosselin appeared on Larry King with his attorney and a geyser pretty much erupted from his mouth. (Video after the jump.)
Not only did a cocky Jon divulge how much money he and Kate were being paid for the show ($22,500 per episode), he also allowed his attorney to characterize TLC as an opportunistic "monster", and was clear that he's willing to do whatever it takes to ensure Kate Plus 8 never happens.
According to the Associated Press, Jon Gosselin today issued a cease-and-desist order to TLC demanding that they stop filming the popular trainwreck of a show.
Wow, what a shocker. This guy is full of surprises, no? phhhbbbtt.
Details are hazy regarding the specfics of the court order, but TLC is halting production of the show "pending further conversations" between the network and the Gosselins. Frankly, I think someone should have a conversation with Jon Gosselin about how to not be a total dickhead. Howabout having THAT conversation, huh TLC? HUH? grumble.
In response to this development, Kate Gosselin issued a statement saying: "It appears that Jon's priority is Jon and his interests... My priority remains our children and their well being." Oooh, BUUUUURRRN.
I would welcome this latest development as an interesting plot twist were this not some poor woman's actual life.
It's been reported that John Edwards has not only set up a residence for Rielle Hunter near the Edwards' family home in Wilmington, N.C., but that he's also preparing to make a public announcement soon admitting paternity of Rielle's one-year-old daughter, Frances, despite Elizabeth Edward's "vehement opposition".
Since Elizabeth has done her best over the last year to ignore both the affair and the resulting child, even forbidding the use of Rielle's name in her presence during interviews, it's no surprise that this news has FINALLY sent Elizabeth running for a divorce lawyer.
Despite her best efforts Rielle Hunter just won't go away and neither will this story. As a matter of fact, it's just getting started.
The Bride is having a royal wedding.
I love Uma Thurman. Always have, always will. She is an excellent actor and a stunning woman. Hell, she was married to Gary Oldman which to me is wonderfully insane, then to Ethan Hawke, who apparently likes nannies and that makes no sense at all when you are married to Uma Thurman, so I'm glad he's gone.
She has always remained graceful in the press and appears to be a fine parent of two children. Now Uma is engaged to multi-millionaire Arpad Busson and I'm very happy for her. Rich is good.
